Republic Peso 1870 Do-P MS64 NGC, Durango mint, KM408.2, Elizondo-980. On the verge of Gem Mint State and by all appearances Prooflike, with expansive metallic fields in clear juxtaposition to sharply engraved motifs, clearly departing from the perennial favorite "Cap & Rays" series. Wonderfully rendered and successfully executed, the reflectivity lends well to the superior eye appeal of this frosty survivor while light marks in the field preclude it from finer designations. Only two finer have been submitted to the major grading services, providing an unlikely opportunity to find a better specimen of this date than the coin at hand. Ex. R.L.
