Description

Central American Republic 8 Reales 1837 NG-BA MS66 S NGC, Nueva Guatemala mint, KM4, WR-11, Elizondo-96. Few coins can claim to represent such an outstanding level of preservation for their respective numismatic series as can the piece presented here. One of the most prolific and iconic Central American crowns ever produced, the sun and mountains 8 Reales can usually be acquired with little difficulty, even in pleasing Mint State grades. Yet to find a specimen that so completely blows the competition out of the water is truly an occasion that should make the prospective bidder stop and pause. Not only is this coin the single finest certified at either major grading service for its date, but it is also the single finest of any Central American 8 Reales across any year and any mint--presently ranking as the sole MS66 at NGC (one MS66 for the 1847 has been certified at PCGS), and the only crown in the series to be awarded a star for stunning eye appeal. Furthermore, this offering could just as easily be seen with a Prooflike designation, owing to its flashy, fully mirrored fields studded with die polish and the most delicate mottling of tone. Indeed, hardly a trace of the usual softness endemic for the denomination can be found, producing a noticeably Pattern-like quality to the reverse. Unlikely to be surpassed anytime soon, and an absolutely singular opportunity.
