Description

Qing Dynasty. Yunnan Sanchuo Jieding ("Three-Stamp Remittance") "Packsaddle" Sycee of 5 Taels ND (19th-20th Century) AU, Cribb-Unl. (cf. Class LXVI). 59x37mm. 167.91gm. Cast at Yuanxinlong Bank, inspected by assayer Tong. Each of the three main stamps reads: "Yuan Xin Long Ji Hui Hao Wen Yin" (Yuanxinlong Bank, remittance bank fine silver), assayer stamps read: "Hui Hao Gong Gu Tong Kan Qi" (Remittance Bank: Inspected by public assayers Tong). A most unusual packsaddle sycee, not least for its omission from Cribb's catalog of sycee in the British Museum--the packsaddle section of which is one of the most complete--but also for its use of an assay mark also entirely unrecorded in that reference. From a visual standpoint, the left and right stamps are noticeably uncirculated and nicely toned, while the central stamps shows light rub. This lot can be submitted to Gong Bo Grading for certification after the auction at the buyer's request. If you would like to exploit this option, please contact HK@HA.com.
