Description

Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus and Romanus II (AD 945-963). AV solidus (19mm, 4.41 gm, 6h). NGC MS 5/5 - 4/5. Constantinople, AD 950-955. + IhS XPS RЄX RЄϚNANTIЧM, half-length bust of Christ facing, wearing nimbus cruciger with three pellets in each limb, pallium and colobium, right hand raised in benediction, book of Gospels cradled in left; single border / COhSTAhT CЄ ROmAh' AЧϚϚ I'R', crowned facing busts of Constantine VII (on left), bearded, wearing loros, and Romanus II (on right), wearing chlamys pinned at right shoulder, jointly holding patriarchal cross with globular terminus between them. Sear 1751. Strongly struck on satiny flan with subdued luster.
