Japan Greater Japan Imperial National Bank 5 Yen ND (1878) Pick 21 PMG Choice Fine 15. Beginning in 1877, the National Bank began issuing unconvertible banknotes in denominations of 1 and 5 Yen. This higher denomination note is scarce in any and all grades, irrespective of city of issue. Blacksmiths are portrayed at front, and the Japanese god of commerce and shipping, Ebisu, is engraved at back. Paper pulls are mentioned by the third party grading company.
