This Specimen represents a very rare type, denominated in gold coinage which was quite unusual for a Chinese issue. Hole punched cancellations and red overprints are in lieu of a date and serial numbers. Mount remnants and a clip dent are mentioned for accuracy. This denomination is unlisted and very scarce. We offered a 5 Gold Yen in 2020, but this is the first 1 Gold Yen to cross our auction block.
