China People's Bank of China 20 Yuan 1949 Pick 819a S/M#C282-31 PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. Seven different 20 Yuan banknotes were issued by the People's Bank in 1948 and 1949, and all are scarce today. This design, featuring the Liuhe Pagoda in Hangzhou is arguably the scarcest. At the time of cataloging, this note is tied with one other for the finest grade in the PMG Population Report. This is only the second instance of a Gem Uncirculated example being offered in a major auction. The last one crossed the auction block with a price realization of over $28,000. This offering represents an important opportunity to acquire a seriously rare, highest graded banknote from this desirable series.
