Description

JUDAEA. Philistia (Palestine) Ascalon. 2nd-1st centuries BC. AR drachm (15mm, 3.15 gm, 1h). NGC Good 4/5 - 4/5. Ptolemaic Autonomous Issue, dated Year 2 (103/2 BC). Turreted head of Tyche right / AΣ, eagle standing left on thunderbolt, palm over right wing; L B (date in right field), prow in left field, EY monogram between legs. cf. HGC 10, 518 = ANS 6, 653 = DCA 82 (Year 35, rated R2). Contrasting toning on bright flan. A fascinating specimen from a series represented by the sole example cited in the standard references. No examples in sales archives.
