Description

German Colony. Wilhelm II gold 15 Rupien 1916-T MS64 NGC, Tabora mint, KM16.2, J-728a. Arabesque below the A in "OSTAFRIKA" variety. Exceptionally well preserved for this popular German colonial type. While the textured nature of the issue often prevents the type of glistening luster that one necessarily expects from other gold issues in uncirculated condition, this example holds sparkling touches of shimmering brilliance that caress the mountainous backdrop and rims, lending a firm sense of preservation that one rarely encounters from this already scarce emission. Clearly well cared for throughout its 100+ year history, and a doubtlessly high-end technical survivor ranking near the very peak of NGC's census, with only a single "Arabesque Below A" example certifying higher, at MS65.
