Description

Louis XV silver Mule Franco-American Jeton 1741/1755 AU58 NGC, Br-516, Lec-159, Robins-29088. Reeded edge. Coin alignment. Two reverses are mated: (1) Department of the Marine jeton of 1741. Mercury standing on the waves, with a trident in his right hand and a caduceus in his left, with date below, (2) The Argo, the mythological Greek galley, with a beaver pelt atop the mast and date below the ship. Mottled silver and gray patina, with boldly defined details and a few light marks. At the time that Mr. Partrick purchased this coin, Warren Baker thought there were only two examples of this type known in silver. We now know of at least two other specimens: the Robins piece (likely the finest known) and the Ford example (heavily cancelled over both sides). Sold with old collector envelope detailing provenance. Purchased from Warren Baker on October 22, 1988
