Ex UBS Gold & Numismatics, Auction 56 (28 January 2003), lot 130 Magnesia ad Maeandrum was founded on the banks of the Lecathus, a tributary of the Maeander river, in south-western Ionia circa the mid-700s BC by a tribe from Thessaly known as the Magnetes, plus colonists from Crete.
