Description

Nürnberg. Klemens August of Bavaria 1/2 Schautaler 1750 MS65 PCGS, Wittelsbach-2026. Struck on the 50th birthday of Klemens August. A well-known patron of the arts, who most notably ordered the building of the Augustusburg and Falkenlust Palaces, August also played a significant role in 18th century German politics, going so far as to crown his brother Charles VII as emperor in 1742 during the War of Austrian Succession. The present "shautaler" is in exceptional condition, with a bright and lustrous reverse and darkly toned obverse with subtle blue highlights.
