Description

ATTICA. Athens. 2nd-1st centuries BC. AR tetradrachm (37mm, 16.26 gm, 12h). NGC Choice VF 5/5 - 3/5. New style coinage, ca. 143/2 BC, Diopha- and Diodo-, magistrates. Head of Athena right, wearing triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with a vine scroll, Pegasus springing right above upturned cheek flap, protomes of five horses on visor / Α-ΘΕ / ΔI-OΦA / ΔIO/ΔO, owl standing facing on overturned amphora; Apollo standing right in left field, right hand extended, bow in left, MΦ (engraver) below, all within olive wreath. HGC 4, 1602. Thompson 185d. Well struck on massive flan.
