Elizabeth II gold Proof "Una and the Lion" 2000 Pounds (2 Kilos) 2019 PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC, KM-Unl., S-Unl. Mintage: 4. 150mm. An absolutely massive modern British rarity, and the second largest denomination ever struck by the Royal Mint. Produced to a miniscule figure of just 4 pieces, of which this is verified to be the first, the type was issued in commemoration of the 170th anniversary of William Wyon's acclaimed 1839 Una and the Lion 5 Pounds, part of Victoria's delayed coronation Proof set and often considered to be one of the finest designs ever engraved for a British coin. Essentially flawless in technical quality, exceptional even as a collector's issue owing to its vastly expansive surfaces, perhaps only the most minor evidence of haze on the obverse accounts for its sub-70 designation. Currently the only of the four known pieces to be certified, we can only anticipate the great heights to which this monumental coin will soar, not least owing to the rising interest among collectors for the low-mintage emissions of the Royal Mint from the last several years. Sold with its original wooden case of issue, together with a fine pair of gloves for handling the coin, and the COA numbered 01.
