Description

William IV Proof Crown 1831 PR64 NGC, KM715, S-3833, ESC-2462 (R2). Plain edge. W.W. on truncation. Sharply produced and with a lovely palette of pastel coloration laid over smooth, minimally disturbed surfaces, this near-gem Proof crown exhibits a superb and unique visual appeal. Silver tone in the center across William's bust transitions to red-gold and iridescent blue as the eye moves outward, all while revealing only the subtlest signs of handling. The strike is needle-sharp, not a hint of weakness visible throughout either the obverse or reverse design motifs. Certainly one of the finer examples of this issue that we have encountered, and a coin worthy of inclusion in a high-end cabinet of British crowns.
