Description

Frederick V Speciedaler 1764-IHW/IW MS66 NGC, Copenhagen mint, KM601, Dav-1302B, Hede-27C, Sieg-18.3. The sole type-date that saw the use of this markedly appealing bust type for Frederick V's coinage, which can likely be regarded as amongst the most handsome of the king's reign. The engraving of Johan Henrik Wold produces a distinctively humanized, though no less romantic, image among the varied bust types of this ruler, a feature which couples with a nearly Prooflike glassy sheen and gunmetal patina to leave utterly little wanting. A type for which collectors would be very hard-pressed to locate a finer representative, if one exists at all. Ex. R.L. Lissner Collection (CNG-St. James's Auction 29, August 2014, Lot 151); Purchased from B.A. Seaby (March 1972)
