Hunan. Kuang-hsü copper Pattern 10 Cash ND (1902-1906) AU58 Brown NGC, KM-Pn5, CL-HUN.96 or 98, Duan-702 or 704, Hsu-Unl. Variety with rosettes with round petals. By all indications a quite rare variety of this already scarce pattern type, and one that was apparently missing from the Q. David Bowers Collection. Showcasing a wood-brown patina with overall rub remaining light and even, our research indicates that the type as a whole is noticeably difficult to procure outside of details grades, making near-Mint representatives a clear target for even discerning collectors. While we have not been able to satisfactorily attribute this particular piece to one particular reference number in either Duan or Zhou and Li's work, both subtypes have fairly similar catalog values, with the latter (CL-HUN.98) being priced slightly higher.
