Description

Hong Kong Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China 5 Dollars 18.8.1930 Pick 53cts KNB32 Color Trial Specimen PMG Choice Uncirculated 64. Blue hues were used instead of green on this handsome Color Trial Specimen, featuring the first date for this popular design. Red overprints and hole punched cancellations are in lieu of the manuscript signature and serial numbers. Interestingly, the Specimen number for this note is carefully tucked in the details just above the Helmeted Warrior at front. There is a modified design number of 531 at top right, which appears to be both typed and handwritten. Typical mount remnants on the back do little to diminish the excellent eye appeal of this prototype. While this was a long-running design, only 1930 and 1931 dated examples lack the hollow Chinese characters to the right of the red denomination "5" at front. While the higher denomination designs often steal the show, make no mistake, this $5 is extremely rare in any trial or Specimen format. The first we have offered.
