Marc Antony, as Imperator and Triumvir (43-30 BC). AR denarius (19mm, 3.76 gm, 10h). NGC VF 4/5 - 3/5. Military mint traveling with Antony, 33/2 BC, M. Junius Silanus, quaestor pro consul. ANTON•AVG•IMP•III•COS•DES•III•III•V•R•P•C•, bare head of Marc Antony right; P (signature) behind ear / M•SILANVS•AVG / Q•PRO•COS, legend in two lines. Crawford 542/1. Sydenham 1208. Antonia 97 and Junia 172. From the Bacchus Collection The small P on the obverse represents the only known example of an artist engraving his initials on a Roman Republican coin. This fact went unnoticed for centuries, until it was first pointed out in a Santamaria sales catalog in 1920.
