Queen's University gold "Mathematics" Prize Medal 1856 MS63 NGC, 39mm. 30.96gm. By J. Woodhouse. Diademed bust of Victoria / Ornate arms of the University. Struck in 1850 and presented in 1856 by The Queen's University of Ireland, Belfast, to Thomas Sinclair in the field of mathematics. Hand-engraved with "THOMAS SINCLAIR. MATHEMATICS" and "1856" in the reverse fields. Desirable as an early issuance of this imposing gold Prize Medal, as when examples of the type do arise they often display text indicating an award ceremony in the later decades of the 19th century.
