British India. Bengal Presidency silver "Claude Martin" Medal AH 1211 (1796/1797) MS61 PCGS, Lec-181 (this piece), Pudd-796.4 (RRRR). 42mm. By A. McKenzie. Type IV. Mintage: 50. A handsome and quite rare medal in silver, portraying Claude Martin, who had deserted the French and entered the English army, rising to the role of Major General in 1796 and the superintendent of the Nabab of Oudh. Toned over to a deep violet hue on the reverse, and made all the more desirable for its use as the plate piece in Lecompte's standard reference.
