Cologne. Free City Taler 1581 MS60 NGC, KM-MB286, Dav-9159. From a reported mintage of 15,000 pieces. A very infrequent offering; indeed, we are only able to find record of a single other example of this date having seen the light of a public auction in the last decade, and it would not be amiss to suggest that this specimen may very well be the sole example known in uncirculated condition. Some slight striking weakness is observed in areas, as is to be expected for this early hammered type, with faint areas of pale yellow tone.
