New Africa Trading Company gold "25th Anniversary" Medal 1900 MS63 NGC, 29mm, 10.97gm. A bright gold award medal overflowing with idealized African imagery, presented to Anton Greshoff for 25 years of service as Director of Nieuwe Afrikaanse Handels Vennootschap, a Dutch trading company founded in 1880. "Brazzaville", the capital and largest city of the modern Republic of the Congo, is noted beneath his name, along with the date of August 15, 1900. We note that the medal, though celebrating Greshoff and the company's presence in Africa, was produced in Arnhem. The insert, noting "Belgian Congo", is not technically correct, as the company at the time was operating outside the area that later became the Belgian Congo in 1908.
