Louis XIV gold 2 Louis d'Or 1694/3-X UNC Details (Reverse Cleaned) NGC, Amiens mint, KM-Unl., Fr-432, Gad-260. A very scarce issue, and the only example of this mint-date that we have encountered, with no other recent auction records available. While the d'or issues of Louis XIV's reign tend to exhibit blatant signs of overstriking, very little evidence of this is visible in the present selection, which features a clear strike to both sides, the devices undiminished in strength by any pre-existing features. Satiny and toned to a pleasing brass-gold, this offering remains a rare opportunity to acquire any example of this mint and date, much more so one preserved in Mint State.
