Franz II (I) gold "Visit to the Milan Mint" Medal 1816 MS65 NGC, Montenuovo-2444 var. (listed in silver), Julius-3096. 37mm. 40.52gm. Plain edge. An extremely rare mint visit medal in gold, apparently missing from both the Horsky and Montenuovo collections, which only contained examples in silver. Struck to approximately 11 ducat weight, this flashy specimen is verifiably mirrorlike in the fields, with the face containing the dedicatory inscription clearly struck from a heavily polished die. Quite likely on par with the Julius collection example in terms of technical quality, and a piece of numismatic history that seldom becomes available to collectors.
