PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, as Satrap (323-305/4 BC). AR tetradrachm (27mm, 17.10 gm, 12h). NGC AU 5/5 - 3/5, Fine Style, marks. Memphis (and Alexandria?), Attic standard, ca. 317/6 BC. Horned head of deified Alexander III right, wearing elephant headdress, mitra and scaly aegis tied before neck, in high relief and of austere style; dotted border / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Zeus seated left on backless throne, right leg drawn back, feet on stool, eagle in right hand, scepter in left; vertical thunderbolt in left field, HIΔ monogram below strut, dotted border. CPE 33. Svoronos 22. A rare type that is seldom seen on the market. Attractive reddish toning.
