William & Mary gold 5 Guineas 1692 UNC Details (Obverse Repaired) NGC, KM479.1, S-3422, Schneider-Unl. QVARTO edge. A highly impressive example of this imposing gold type depicting the joint monarchs, William III and Mary II. Even cursory inspection of the specimen reveals brightly shimmering golden brilliance that cascades over the fields, rotation unveiling only trivial instances of handling, sufficiently light so as to barely disturb the coin's admirable luster. In fact, one might reasonably observe that the present representative easily surpasses a number of non details-graded examples that we have previously offered, the surfaces overall significantly less impacted by hairline marks and the visual appeal quite strong considering any Details designation. While we cannot disregard the repair notation given by NGC, the evidence of any repair is so mild that we are uncertain of what feature this refers to, with the likeliest possibility consisting of a small degree of chatter concentrated near "GRATIA" in the obverse legend. Regardless, the impression left from an in-hand experience is solely one of quality and aesthetic allure, and we would consider lucky the winning bidder of this exceptional golden rarity.
