Victoria gold Specimen "Winchester College" Prize Medal 1846 SP62+ PCGS Eimer-Unl. (cf. Eimer-1240 for the same type, but from William IV's reign). 49mm. 56.91gm. By B. Wyon. Awarded to Edward Holroyd in 1846 (inscribed on edge). A notably high-relief prize medal seen in a glossy mirrorlike finish. Edward Dundas Holroyd, the recipient of the medal, became a prominent judge in Australia in the 1860s after his graduation from Winchester college, and continued the role until his retirement in 1906. He was twice awarded the Queen's medal for Latin and English essays at Winchester.
