Septimius Severus (AD 193-211). AR denarius (20mm, 4.01 gm, 6h). NGC XF 4/5 - 4/5. Rome, AD 209. SEVERVS-PIVS AVG, laureate head of Septimius Severus right / VICTORIAE-AVGG, emperor seated facing on Sella curulis, Victory in right hand; crowned by Victory flying left, nude young Genius kneeling and supporting orbis anni (annual circle) on shoulders to emperor at right. RIC IV.I 301. Very rare. This intriguing issue is only known from a handful of examples. RIC describes the reverse as Roma seated, noting the British Museum example is "clearly feminine". Cohen lists the figure as Severus, which appears to be correct and likely refers to the victories in Britain during AD 208-209.
