L. Pinarius Scarpus, as Imperator (ca. 31 BC), with Octavian, as Imperator. AR denarius (20mm, 3.59 gm, 11h). NGC XF S 5/5 - 4/5. Cyrene. AVGVR upwards to left, PONTIF upwards to right, head of Jupiter Ammon right / IMP-CAESAR• / DIVI-F, Victory standing right on globe, palm in left hand over shoulder, wreath tied with fillet in extended right hand. RIC I 535. Crawford 546/4. Sydenham 1281. Julia 141. Rare type. From the Bacchus Collection This issue is likely the first struck by Scarpus after defecting from Antony to Octavian. Although the name Scarpus is absent, replaced by the priestly titles for Octavian, the Jupiter Ammon obverse is proper to the Scarpus issues of ca. 31 BC.
