Description

Philip II of Spain & Mary I (1554-1558) Shilling 1554 XF40 NGC, Tower mint, S-2500, N-1967. The first year for the type featuring the joint monarch's longer titles, with the usual softness to their portraits having little effect on the remainder of the design. Toned over to a pleasing gunmetal-plumb, the margins appear tinged with iridescence, establishing a firm eye appeal for the specimen. Highly desirable outside of low to VF grades, and a covetable example.
