Richard III Groat ND (1483-1485) XF45 NGC, London mint, Halved Sun and Rose (SR3) mm, S-2158, N-1680. 3.00gm. Pellet below bust. Likely one of the most coveted monarchs of the pre-Tudor period, and the infamous final king of the House of York, this groat of Richard III proves all-around exceptional considering the usual flaws that plague his coinage--bent flans, poor states of preservation, and strikes that generally leave much to be desired. While admittedly a bit rough around the edges, the design itself is well-struck and presented, the king's bust expressing an atypical clarity. Currently the finest we have offered.
