Description

Republic gold "Universal Exposition" Award Medal 1878 AU, Paris mint. 50mm. 83.25gm. Edge: Plain, with bee stamp. By J.C. Chaplain. Awarded to J.B. Clerc. Obverse: Laureate bust of Liberty (France); Reverse: Depiction of exhibition grounds, Victory holding a wreath and trumpet with cupid below, holding plaque with name of recipient. An exquisite gold medal produced to a large dimension in a matte-like finish, some lesser rub and handling evident but with all major details essentially intact.
