Kingdom of Cyprus. Henry I electrum Bezant (Hyperpyron) ND (1218-1253) AU55 NGC, Schlumberger-Plate VI, 6, CCS-16. 3.78gm. hЄNRICVS | RЄX CyPRI, crowned, bearded figure of Henry standing facing (in guise of the Byzantine emperor), globus cruciger in left hand, patriarchal cross in right / Christ Pantocrator enthroned facing, supporting book of Gospels in left hand, raising right in benediction, IC-XC (marks of contraction above) to either side). An exemplary striking which in many ways exceeds both its Byzantine prototypes in terms of execution and certainly the contemporary emissions of the Empire of Nicaea, the entirety of the design captured by the flan with the king's titles rendered without the least difficult in legibility. One of the best examples of the type we have been able to locate, sure to excite among serious series collectors.
