Description

Vittorio Emanuele III 5 Lire 1914-R MS65 PCGS, Rome mint, KM56, Dav-144, Pag-708. Mintage: 273,000. One of the most beloved of all of Vittorio Emanuele III's coin designs, bearing the iconic neo-classical imagery of a Roman quadriga, this one-year type could hardly be expected to come much finer--indeed, to-date only a single MS66 has been certified between NGC and PCGS combined. Exceptionally frosty and clearly struck from a heavily polished obverse die, the last specimen we offered in this grade brought $20,400 in our January 2019 NYINC sale.
