Description

Edward VI (1547-1553) gold 1/2 Sovereign ND (1551-1553) AU50 NGC, Tower mint, Tun mm, S-2451, N-1928. 5.49gm. A charming Tudor issue struck during the reign of Henry VIII's short-lived son Edward. Slightly creased with some minor edge cracks and contact marks (all very usual for the type), but otherwise very bold and with an excellent portrait of the young King armored holding his sword and orb; the planchet is of good metal, graced with its original surfaces and lightly toned with hints of orange-red. A very difficult type to obtain in Almost Uncirculated condition, and highly desirable thus. Ex. Waterbird Collection
