Saxony. Johann Georg II 2 Taler 1661 MS62 NGC, Dresden mint, KM496, Dav-LS401, Schnee-912. An incredible commemorative that fully captures all the desirable elements of the German multiple talers of the period in a brilliantly flashy finish. Struck on the addition of a chapel to the Schloss Moritzburg, designed by Wolf Kaspar von Klengel, who is also noteworthy for having built the first opera house in Dresden, the Semperoper. Perhaps a bit conservatively graded, and very much on the cusp of choice. From the Amsterdam Collection
