Crowned "250" countermark (AU Strong) upon Lisbon mint, Portugal 200 Reis (½ Cruzado) of João IV (1640-1656), applied upon these coins per law of March 22, 1663 (and later per edict of July 7, 1663 in Brazil) to raise their value by 25%. Moderate wear upon host coin, with an impressively bold countermark.
