Description

Rama IV silver "Royal Gift" Baht ND (1857-1858) AU55 NGC, Bangkok mint, KM-X14, LeMay-pp. 94-95, Plate XXII, 2, Krisadaolarn/Mihailovs-pg. 152, Plate F12 (same dies). Bannakan ('Royal Gift') issue. Mintage: 2400. A significant rarity within the milled Thai series, representing the first milled coinage of the kingdom and the first struck in Bangkok. Produced from characteristically rusted dies, we have been able to locate only a single other example having appeared at auction in Hong Kong in April 2011, which brought $4000. From the Dr. Norman Jacobs Collection of Thai Coins
