Description

French Colony silver Specimen Cut Canceled Trial Piastre 1931 SP55 PCGS, Paris mint, cf. KM19 (for standard issue), Lec-306.10 var. Diagonally cut and cancelled, with '3' countermark on cheek and ink numerals 19.760 written downwards over the bust. One of only a small handful of these cut/canceled trial strikes that we have had the privilege to offer, and likely one of a only an extremely small handful of survivors, with 1931 standing as a transitional year for the coinage of French Indo-China and the first year for the 'Liberty Head' type. A total of 23 trial strikes are known to exist. We previously offered the consecutive piece to the present offering, countermarked '4', also in SP55, which brought $6572 in our June 2017 Hong Kong sale.
