Edward VII "Small Crown" 25 Cents 1906 AU58 PCGS, London mint, KM11. Small Reverse Crown variety. Noted as one of the keys to the series, this "Small Crown" variety remains incredibly difficult to acquire so fine, as those that are typically offered have been heavily circulated. This particular coin, teetering on the cusp of Mint State, displays silvery-gray surfaces accented by areas of russet tone Closer inspection reveals very mild wear to the central motifs; however, the emblematic reverse wreath design shows as-struck detailing. At present, while three other examples are certified at NGC in this nearly uncirculated quality, this remains the only coin certified by PCGS in this grade. The solo MS62 coin by PCGS was offered by us as part of the Cook Collection in August of 2019, realizing an impressive $32,000 hammer. And while a single coin even finer (MS63 NGC) exists, it's safe to presume that this specimen is an absolute contender for the type, and is worthy of center placement in its next collection.
