Description

SELEUCID KINGDOM. Seleucus I Nicator (312-281 BC). AR tetradrachm (24mm, 1h). NGC Choice VF. Types of Alexander III of Macedon, Uncertain Mint 3 in Cappadocia, Eastern Syria, or Northern Mesopotamia, probably after ca. 300 BC. Head of Heracles right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck; dotted border / ΣEΛEYKOY-BAΣIΛEΩΣ curving around rim, Zeus seated left on backless throne, right leg drawn back, feet on stool, Nike right in right hand, scepter in left; ΔN monogram angled in circle in left field, dotted border. SC 59.1. Extremely rare - no examples in sales archives.
