Philippines Banco Espanol Filipino 100 Pesos 1.1.1904 Pick A35r Remainder PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. Issued by the Banco Espanol Filipino during the earliest years of the American administration of the archipelago, this 1904 is incredibly challenging to find in any format. In 1912, the bank changed its name to Bank of the Philippine Islands, and still operates as such today. Until 1896, The Banco Espanol Filipino issued notes denominated as Pesos Fuertes, which translates to the "Strong Peso". Many Filipinos of European decent fled to Spain after the Spanish American War ended, which may account for the known examples from the 1896 series of banknotes. After the regime change, "Fuertes" dropped from the denomination for the 1904 series, which is virtually nonexistent today, for reasons partially unknown. This perfectly preserved remainder is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a relic from the 1904 emission. Gem quality paper is easily seen through the third party holder. Three perforated cancellations are mentioned for accuracy. This is the first example offered in public auction since electronic records became commonplace, and it is the only example graded in the PMG Population Report at the time of cataloging. An important opportunity to acquire this large format, high denomination type.
