Description

India - Imperial Guptas - Candragupta II Vikramaditya (c. 376-412 AD) - Chattra Type, AV dinara 7.74 g, 17 mm, specific gravity 14.43. Obv.: Elegant, but stocky king beneath parasol (the top not on coin), drops oblations on altar; he rests left hand on sword. His outfit includes loin cloth, necklace, and cord with beads. Large head covered with large curls. Attendant with parasol behind him in right field. Faint traces of verse legend as on previous coin / Rev.: Nimbate Śrī stands to left in swayed stance. She wears hip cloth, long uttarīya, and hair tied into bun at back of head. She holds diadem fillet and stalk of compact lotus with pendant hand. On left a small tamga and opposite vikkramādityaḥ. Raven 2005:619-620, cp. fig. 9 and more coins in this style; (Raven 2001:400-402, Var. II.7; Kumar 2017/2024:Var. I.C.2; Raven frthcmg: CG2/Group 7, Var. 1, Fr.83) - good VF, Always small coins, here clipped. Not rare but less common than Archer coins in this style
