Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie (1602-1799) - Java - Pitje 1744 struck at Batavia, (Scho. - / N.-VdCh. - / Millies -; Passon 18.1) – 1.15 g. – VZ VOC-monogram / AO 1744 / KZ blank – ZF / RRRR / Extremely Rare - These coins were struck at VOC workshop in Batavia from a lead-tin alloy of about equal parts, and declared current in Batavia and Java by the resolution of 14 february 1744. Untill the publication of the catalgue by Passon this issue remained missing in the standard reference works on the VOC-coinage. Due to recent dredging works of the canals in the centre of city of Jakarta (former Batavia) a few more specimen surfaced, nevertheless well preserved specimen still remain extremely rare. gVF for issue.
