Description

Germany - 1870 - Oval engraved and silver-inlaid plaque, awarded in the name of King Wilhelm I of Prussia to Jacob van der Kuyl, captain of the ship “Koophandel & Zeevaart”, for rescuing the 14 crew members of the ship “Amalia & Laura” from Danzig – brass 184x111 mm 577 grams – VF, some dents on the edge. NB The “Amalia & Laura” under Captain Danneberg was collided by an unknown steamship near the Kiskassen (Les Casquets, a group of rocks in the Channel) on 31 January 1870 and sank. The 14 crew members escaped in a boat and were rescued by the “Koophandel en Zeevaart”, from Villanova on their way to Vlaardingen.
