GREEK , Cilicia, Tarsos, Mazaios as Satrap, 361-334 BC. AR Stater - Baaltars seated left / Lion attacking bull.
Greece, Cilicia, Tarsos, Satrapa Mazaios, Stater (361-334 BC)
A beautiful copy. Sharp relief, gloss, but slight scratch marks under the lion. A more interesting coin from the times of satrap (provincial governor in ancient Persia) Mazaios.
Obverse: Baal of Tarsos seated on a throne, holding a scepter in his hands (right) and an Eagle, an ear of grain, grapes (left). Letters under the throne and grapes, on the right the Aramaic inscription BALTRZ. Reverse: a lion attacking a bull, under the Aramaic inscription MZDI (Mazaios). Very Fine.
