Amulet in the shape of a Nile tortoise. L 3cm. Made from grey-greenish mafite. Smooth on the underside. Hole drilled across the body for suspension. Had an apotropaic function and served as protection against the Nile tortoise (Trionyx tringuis). Middle Kingdom, circa 1800 BC. Intact, with remains of glue on the underside. Published!
