Description

A blue faience scarab with separate black faience wings, altogether 8,4cm wide. The charming item has been in the possession of Anton Badrutt, who managed the Winter Palace Hotel in Luxor from 1920 to 1935, during the most prestigious time of this place when Sir Howard Carter made his discoveries in the grave of Tutankhamun and all the elite of the world travelled to Egypt. According to the notes of Prof. Schlögl, this little piece was a gift of Howard Carter to Anton Badrutt. Geflügelter Skarabäus. Spätzeit, um 500 v. Chr. Der Käfer (L 3,2cm) aus blauer, die Flügel (L je 3,3cm) aus schwarzer Fayence. Gesamtbreite 8,4cm. Publiziert in: H.A.Schlögl - R.Buxtdorf, Ägypten - Geschichte in Stein (2022) 160 - 161. Verbindungen modern, intakt. Provenienz: Ex Sammlung Hermann A. Schlögl, ex Auktion Vogler, Basel, 1. Juni 2013, Lot 2; ex Sammlung Anton R.Badrutt (1888 - 1967). Angeblich erhalten als Geschenk von Howard Carter.
