Upper part of a Roman mould for making figural terracotta lamps in form of a bearded theatre mask with tall wig. North Africa, 3rd - 4th century AD. 19,2 x 14,1 x 6,3cm. Oval mould made of gypsum. At the forepart below two large eyes a round indentition for making a hole for the wick. In the centre an oblong hole for a handle and at the back part an opening for a knob handle. On the rim four indentations for the adjustment of the other half. Very rare object! Missing parts at the sides, otherwise intact. Obere Hälfte eines römischen Models zur Herstellung figürlicher Tonlampen in Form einer Theatermaske. Nordafrika, 3. - 4. Jh. n. Chr. 19,2 x 14,1 x 6,3cm. Ovale Form aus Gips mit negativem Relief. Oberteil einer Lampe in Gestalt einer liegenden Theatermaske mit Bart und hoher Perücke. Im vorderen Bereich zwischen zwei großen Augen eine Vertiefung anstelle des Mundes, aus der später das Loch für den Docht gebildet wurde. In der Mitte ein längliches Loch für einen Griff und im hinteren Bereich eine Aussparung für einen Noppenhenkel. Am Rand vier Vertiefungen für die Noppen der anderen Modelhälfte. Sehr seltenes Stück! Fehlstellen am Rand, sonst intakt.
